Exporting Data From SegMetrics
SegMetrics offers three export formats—PDF, CSV, and Retargeting—each designed for different use cases. This guide explains when to use each format and how to export your data effectively.
Understanding Export Formats
SegMetrics provides three export options, each serving distinct purposes:
PDF exports are ideal for sharing visual reports with stakeholders who need to review metrics but don't require the underlying data. Use PDFs for presentations, client reports, or executive summaries.
Retargeting exports create text files containing email addresses for use in advertising platforms like Facebook Ads, Google Ads, or other retargeting campaigns. Use retargeting exports to create custom audiences based on specific behaviors or segments.
CSV exports provide raw data for deeper analysis in Excel, Google Sheets, or other analytics tools. Use CSVs when you need to manipulate data, create custom calculations, or integrate with other systems.
How to Export Any Format
- Navigate to the report you want to export.
- If its not already saved you can create a new one by selecting the magnifying glass in the right hand corner of any widget

3. The Data Explorer will open, displaying a detailed breakdown of your data with expanded metrics, filtering options, and additional report fields
4. Select the 3 dots next to the save icon and choose which type of export you would like
Exporting Reports to PDF
PDF exports capture the visual representation of your report, including charts, KPIs, and table data, making them perfect for sharing insights with non-technical stakeholders.
When to Export to PDF
- Client reporting: Share performance metrics with clients who need visual summaries
- Executive presentations: Provide leadership with high-level insights without overwhelming detail
- Team collaboration: Distribute reports to team members who don't have SegMetrics access
- Record keeping: Archive snapshots of performance at specific points in time
- Stakeholder updates: Send regular updates to investors or partners
The report downloads as a PDF document to your computer, ready to share via email or presentation.
Important: PDF exports are read-only. If you need to make changes, you must return to SegMetrics, adjust the report settings, and re-export.
Exporting Retargeting Lists
Retargeting exports create formatted lists of email addresses that can be uploaded directly to advertising platforms for creating custom audiences.
When to Export Retargeting Lists
- Re-engagement campaigns: Target contacts who canceled subscriptions or let them lapse
- High-value audience targeting: Create lookalike audiences based on your best customers
- Upsell campaigns: Target customers who purchased specific products with related offers
- Abandoned cart recovery: Reach contacts who clicked ads but didn't complete purchases
- Win-back campaigns: Re-engage inactive contacts with special offers
- Exclusion lists: Prevent ads from showing to existing customers or specific segments
The export generates a text file containing all email addresses matching your filters. This file can be uploaded directly to Facebook Ads Manager, Google Ads, or other advertising platforms to create custom audiences.
Using Retargeting Lists in Ad Platforms
For Facebook Ads:
- Open Facebook Ads Manager
- Navigate to Audiences
- Click Create Audience > Custom Audience
- Select Customer List
- Upload your retargeting file or paste the email addresses
- Name and save your custom audience
Your custom audience will be available for ad targeting within 24-48 hours.
Exporting to CSV for Analysis
CSV exports provide raw data for deeper analysis, custom reporting, or integration with other tools.
When to Export to CSV
- Custom calculations: Perform calculations not available in SegMetrics
- Data integration: Import data into other analytics or business intelligence tools
- Detailed analysis: Examine granular data in spreadsheet software
- Bulk data operations: Work with large datasets outside of SegMetrics
- Historical comparisons: Compare current data with previously exported datasets
Understanding What Gets Exported
The CSV export captures exactly what is currently displayed on your screen, including:
- Only data visible in the current table view
- All applied filters
- The selected date range
- The current page only (if viewing paginated data)
To export comprehensive data, ensure you've set your desired date range, applied necessary filters, and adjusted the number of rows displayed before exporting.
FAQs
Q: Can I export multiple reports at once?
A: No, you must export each report individually. For PDFs and CSVs, repeat the export process for each report. For retargeting lists, you can only export one segment at a time.
Q: Can I edit a PDF after exporting?
A: No, PDF exports are read-only. To make changes, return to SegMetrics, adjust the report, and re-export.
Q: What format are retargeting exports?
A: Retargeting exports are plain text files (.txt) containing one email address per line, formatted for direct upload to advertising platforms.
Q: Will my filtered data be included in the export?
A: Yes, all three export formats respect your applied filters. The export captures exactly what you see on screen at the time of export.
Q: Is there a limit to how much data I can export?
A: CSV exports include only what's displayed on your current screen. For large datasets, adjust your pagination settings or date ranges and perform multiple exports. PDF exports capture the entire visible report. Retargeting exports include all contacts matching your filters regardless of pagination.
