Now that you’re all set up with SegMetrics - let's build your first report in just a few minutes. It's way easier than you think.
Start by asking yourself: what question am I trying to answer? SegMetrics has a report type for almost anything. Want to know where your new leads are coming from? Pick Contacts. Curious which ads are driving purchases? That's Advertising. Trying to understand your website traffic? Choose Traffic. Each one just focuses your report on a different part of your marketing. For now, let's start with Contacts - it's one of the most useful for any marketer.
Look at that - you already have a report! SegMetrics fills it in automatically with sensible defaults. You can see your leads and customers broken down by channel, how well each one converts, and what’s really driving your revenue. This is your starting point.
On the right side, you have three simple controls that shape what you're seeing. The Data Lens is your report type - you just picked that. Attribution is how SegMetrics connects your marketing touchpoints to your results - the default Full Funnel works great to start. And the date filter at the bottom controls your time window. It's set to the last 30 days, but you can change that to anything you’d like.
For example, to see new lead data for the last 90 days, just change the date range and your whole report updates instantly. Here's something powerful: once you see which channel is performing best, click 'Add Dimension' and drill down into it. Select the Campaign dimension as a second breakdown and suddenly you can see not just that Paid traffic is your top source - but exactly which campaigns within Paid and other channels are doing the work. One click takes you from the big picture to the details.
Here's one more trick that changes how you think about reports. See the Filters section? You can use it to focus your entire report on just one segment of your audience. Say you ran an email campaign and tagged everyone who clicked as 'Newsletter' in your email tool. Just add that tag as a filter here, and now every number in your report - leads, revenue, conversion rate - only reflects that segment. It's like having a completely separate report just for that group, without building anything from scratch."
Once you’ve set up your report just the way you need, you can rename it at the top and saved it so you can pull it up at any time without having to rebuild it!
Your first report is live. Now you know where your leads and customers are actually coming from - and that changes everything about where you spend your time and money."
