What You’ll Need
To make this process work, you’ll need the following:
- Zapier account
- SegMetrics account
- Slack account
Create a new Zap for SegMetrics to Slack Integration
First, you’ll need to create a new Zap:
- Log in to your Zapier account.
Click on +Create Zap in the upper left corner.
- Give your zap a unique name so that you’ll remember its function.
Configure the Trigger Event
Now that you have a new zap, go ahead and configure the Trigger step:
Click on the zap’s Trigger Step.
When prompted to select an app, select Zapier’s built in “Schedule” app.
For the trigger Event, select the frequency you’d like the zap to run. For example, if you’d like this function to run daily, select “Every Day.”
- Click Continue.
Next, decide if the zap should run on the weekend or just on weekdays; also choose the time of day the zap should run.
- Click Continue.
Continue through the trigger set up and click Test trigger.
Now that your trigger is configured, continue on to set up the zap’s Action steps.
Configure the Action Steps
For the rest of the zap, you’ll configure two different action steps. First will be the webhook configuration to pull the report data from SegMetrics. The second step will be to send that data into a Slack channel.
Action Step 1: Zapier Webhook Configuration:
Click on the zap’s Action step.
Search for and select Zapier’s built-in “Webhooks” action.
For the action Event, select GET.
- For the URL, enter the following: https://api.segmetrics.io/
- Go to the saved report in the SegMetrics account you’d like to pull data from.
In the URL of that report, select and copy everything from the account ID forward.
Paste those details to the end of the URL within the action step. Here’s an example of a completed URL.
In the Headers field, configure as follows for authentication into your SegMetrics account. You can find your account’s API key here.
- Click Continue.
- Test the action step by clicking Test Step.
Action Step 2: Slack Channel Configuration:
Click the + button under the first action step.
Search for and select the Slack App.
For the action Event, select Send Channel Message.
- Click Continue.
Select the Slack account, or connect a new Slack account to Zapier if you haven’t already done so.
- Click Continue.
Select the Channel Name you’d like to send the message.
- Configure the channel’s Message Text.
- Configure any other parameters you’d like to use in the action, then click Continue.
- Test the action step.
Testing and Activating Your Zap
Next, you’ll want to test and activate your Zap so that you can start sending your SegMetrics report data through to your preferred Slack channel.
- Run a test to ensure the integration is working correctly. If it is, you’ll see a message appear in the selected Slack channel with the parameters you specified in the Slack action step.
- If the test is successful and appears as you’d like for it to appear, activate your Zap.
