MailerLite
MailerLite is an email marketing platform that helps businesses create, send, and automate email campaigns. By integrating MailerLite with SegMetrics, you can track subscriber engagement, analyze email performance, and understand how your email campaigns drive conversions across your entire customer journey.
What Data SegMetrics Imports from MailerLite
SegMetrics imports the following data directly from your MailerLite account:
- Contacts: All subscriber records with email addresses
- Custom Fields: Any custom contact fields you've created in MailerLite
- Groups: MailerLite groups are imported as tags in SegMetrics
SegMetrics stays synchronized with your MailerLite account, automatically updating with the most recent information to ensure you always have access to current data.
How MailerLite Groups Are Handled
MailerLite uses "groups" to organize subscribers, while SegMetrics uses "tags" for segmentation. When you connect MailerLite to SegMetrics, all groups are automatically converted to tags.
Important note about initial import:
- During the first import, all existing MailerLite groups will be assigned as tags in SegMetrics
- The tag date for these initially imported groups will be set to the date of import into SegMetrics (not the original date they were added in MailerLite)
- This means historical group assignments will show the import date rather than when contacts were originally added to those groups in MailerLite
After initial import:
- All new group assignments in MailerLite will sync to SegMetrics with accurate dates
- Tag dates will match the actual date contacts were added to groups in MailerLite
- This ensures accurate tracking of when contacts joined specific segments going forward
Important: SegMetrics tracks contacts in MailerLite even after they're deleted. If someone opts out or is removed from your mailing lists, SegMetrics retains their historical data because they may still be active in your ecosystem through purchases or other touchpoints.

Connecting Payment Information to MailerLite Contacts
To see complete attribution from email campaigns to revenue, you need to connect a payment processor to SegMetrics in addition to MailerLite.
How it works: SegMetrics matches invoices from your payment processor to email addresses in MailerLite, allowing you to track which email campaigns and automations lead to purchases.
Recommended approach: Connect whichever payment processor serves as your single source of truth for revenue data. SegMetrics has native integrations with major payment processors including:
- Stripe
- PayPal
- Shopify
- ThriveCart
- And many others
Important: Without a connected payment processor, you can track email engagement (opens, clicks) but cannot attribute revenue to your MailerLite campaigns.
Historical Data Sync
When you first connect MailerLite to SegMetrics, all historical data from your MailerLite account is synced, including:
- All contacts (current and past)
- All tags and custom fields
- All list memberships
- Contact history and updates
Click Data Limitations
Important: Historical click data is only available from the date you installed the SegMetrics tracking pixel on your website. Click tracking requires the pixel to be active, so click data can only date as far back as when the pixel was first placed on your pages.
If you haven't installed the tracking pixel yet, do so immediately to begin collecting click and page view data going forward.
How to Use MailerLite Data in SegMetrics
MailerLite functions as an email service provider (ESP) in SegMetrics, providing subscriber and engagement data that appears across your reports.
Data Appears in These Reports
- Acquisition Reports: Track newly created contacts who subscribed to your MailerLite lists
- Nurture Reports: Track contacts who received tags or list additions within MailerLite
- Engagement Reports: Track contacts who visited pages or engaged with your emails (opens, clicks)
- Orders Reports: Track contacts who made purchases after engaging with your MailerLite campaigns
- Subscriptions Reports: Track contacts who started subscriptions after email engagement
Understanding Email Attribution
SegMetrics tracks the complete customer journey from email engagement to purchase. When someone:
- Receives an email from MailerLite AND clicks a link in that email
- Eventually makes a purchase
SegMetrics connects all these touchpoints and shows you which emails contributed to that revenue, helping you understand which campaigns and automations drive the most value.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What time zone is MailerLite data synced in? A: MailerLite data is synced in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). SegMetrics automatically converts and reports on your data based on the timezone you set in your Account Settings, so you'll see data in your local time.
Q: How can I set up landing pages to track opt-ins? A: You need to install the SegMetrics tracking pixel on all of your pages, including any forms and opt-in pages. You can test that your forms are tracking correctly using the debugger tool located at the bottom of your Settings page.
Q: Do I need to create tracking links to get the data found in my MailerLite account? A: While not required, it's highly recommended to use UTM parameters in your email campaigns. UTM parameters allow SegMetrics to track the effectiveness of specific emails and campaigns. Without UTMs, SegMetrics can still track website visitors and gather domain and URL data, but you won't have detailed campaign-level attribution. Tracking Links provide a simple way to add UTM parameters and get detailed data about exactly which links subscribers clicked.
Q: What's the difference between MailerLite data and SegMetrics tracking? A: MailerLite provides contact information, tags, and list membership data. SegMetrics tracking (via the pixel) provides page view and click data. You need both working together for complete attribution - MailerLite tells you who your contacts are, and SegMetrics tracking shows you what they do on your website.
Q: How long does it take for MailerLite data to appear in SegMetrics? A: Initial import time varies based on the size of your MailerLite account. After the initial sync is complete, new data typically appears in SegMetrics within 15-30 minutes as SegMetrics continuously syncs with MailerLite to keep your data up to date.
